Smart Technologies Concept

The task for this week was to conceptualise a piece of smart technology that would ultimately protect users from having their data sold or used by governments. This concept is for a smart bin. The smart bin monitors wastage and scans the item to see whether it is recyclable or not and informs the user of what to do with it. If it is an item of food, the device can also recommend uses for the food if it still usable or compostable. Where the bin ties in to the task is that it also scans a users documents if they are throwing away something that could have sensitive or personal information that could be stolen. The device will inform the user if it is unlegible and that it can be disposed of. If the device deemsthe document as legible, it will inform the user and recommend ways to dispose of the document safely. It also helps reduce wastage and provides practical solutions to avoiding using landfill.

Industry 4.0 Concept

Image
Whilst thinking about industry 4.0 and its effect on the creative industry, i struggled to find a good example of this. A lot of what i read was just that creatives would thrive since creatives tend to think of less conventional ideas and methods. So i began to think technologically and what industry 4.0 meant. Industry 4.0 is the introduction of fully autonomous technology in manfuacturing. So what about applying this thought to art. What happens when creating art could be fully autonomous. This is the case within generative art. Unlike industry 4.0, autonomous art has been around for a long time. My concept would be about creating the autonomous artist. An implanted AI that would use someones body to paint and be programmed for different art styles. Although this type of technology is speculative, who am i to day it is or isnt possible. The concept uses the idea of AI and autonomous production. The AIrtist is an AI dot that when placed on someones temple, emits electronic com...

AI and Computer Learning Concept

During our discussion, Delia proposed her initial thoughts and this is what we based our concept upon. Delia spoke about a recent campaign she saw about antibiotics and how we should only take them when required or this could render them ineffective in situations were antibiotics are needed. We decided to think of a concept based on this and this meant we would be working within the healthcare industry. The idea is to create a device that checks the state of someones immune system. This would be useful for the elderly and those with immunity disorders. The device would ensure the user will get the most useful treatment for their issue and not require many doses of antibiotics to get rid of. It could also be used at home for people to self manage their condition and keep an eye on the state of their immune system to act accordingly. If it is not functioning well, they can either see a doctor or take precautions until there is an improvement. The tech could initially roll out into care...

Biotechnology Concept

Image
While identifing key trends in bio-digital technologies, one common we saw was genetically modifiying a pre-existing thing. It was to always to create something completely new, just something better or more sustainable. Through this, we thought what if designer babies became common and more mainstream. We then set out to design a UI for someone to create their perfect chil However, this does raise some issues. If genetic modification became extreamely popular, we would end up with a civilization of people purposefully designed and most likely without flaws. To those who opted out of modification, this may see them being excluded from society for their imperfections and risk to disease. This project would be open for various artists to collaborate on. From UX and UI designers for the program itself to bioengineers for the actual production part. Concept: The target group would primarily be those who are planning to have a child. They could then begin the planning and designing...

I am unable to write about this topic. There are no sources on Canvas for session 7 other than a powerpoint file with slides without much info about the topic itself. I am unable to ask the tutor what the session was about since he is no longer at the university.  Info from session 2 Session 7

Share Economy

Image
Share Economy Heres a word that scares me. "Economy". Maybe its just a sign of my generation but theres one thing i do not like and thats discussing current economic issues and practices. Sharing Economy is a little less scary though. Having struggled in the past with money working minimum wage with little experience, i did what i could to get by and live a little. I enjoyed art so what programs could i use to digitall paint? There are many free softwares but the best ones are usually locked behind a payment page. I may or may not have participated in some P2P sharing in order to get the software to learn the base skills i needed to have a portfolio to get me into university. But now sharing economy is much more legitimate. Marketplaces exist to allow user to communicate and exchange goods or services. By utilizing others skillsets, users are able to get exactly what they need by doing something in return. If two users have what the other needs, the barter begins. Social...

Smart Technologies

Image
Smart technology is something ever present in society. We are seeing regular objects being enhanced technologically and being dubbed "smart" products. One such example is Hapifork, a smart fork. Yes. A mundane object such as a fork got the smart treatment. But how exaclty do you improve on a kitchen utensil? You get it to tell you off if youre eating too fast. The Hapifork sees to help stop the pain and suffering of eating too fast. Using sensors, the fork will vibrate and light up signalling the fork is being used to rapidly and means the user is eating too fast. The article i read was published august 2018 and currently in 2019, i am unable to access an official page without a 404 error. https://www.geek.com/tech/hapifork-is-a-smart-fork-for-your-dumb-mouth-1730322/ An electric toothbrush is something most of us had. It was a motorised enhancement that actually improved the object meaning that brushing teeth is much more efficiant. Little things like timers and pressu...
